A JOURNEY THROUGH
OUR site’s history
1780
Thomas Milne created maps of all agricultural land in London between 1780 and 1800. Our area was used for market gardens, pasture for animals and arable fields.
1809
There were about 150 acres of market garden ground in 1809. 20 acres were used by Mr Rigge, a perfumer in Bond Street for lavender and rose trees.
1834
135 years of gas manufacture at Wandsworth, during which from humble beginnings the company grew into one of the nation’s largest gas concerns
1906
The balloon ‘Vivienne IV’ shown being inflated at the Wandsworth Gas Works made a safe descent near the shores of Lake Geneva.
1908
The Spencer Airship (piloted by Herbert Spencer) was photographed in flight over Wandsworth on May 2nd, 1908, during an attempt to fly around St. Paul's Cathedral
2019
Construction at New Acres began in 2019, marking the start of a new neighbourhood for Wandsworth. The project will deliver over 1,000 apartments for rent alongside vibrant shops, spaces and amenities.
2026
